Sim our life

Okay, so the blogging of our life has slowed down a bit. Time to pick up the pace.

I just completely legally downloaded a copy of The Sims and am in the process of creating a Sim equivalent of our life. If you'd like to be included in this Sim world, let us know. You'll get a house and included in the blog updates.

Brian is incapable of making a horse noise. Funny.

Circle the Wagons

I am going to let my mood today be entirely determined by the Bills-Patriots game. If the Bills win, I'll be happy, I might even make pancakes. If they lose, I'll kill Brian in his sleep.

It is a good system.

Testing if we can have videos and whatnot. Also I really like the song and always dig a cute cellist.

Competition

As evidenced by the post below, there are some pretty silly forms of competition. But even in Mario Baseball, competition is meaningful. The reason you can actually care about a ghost named Boo dominating the hell out of a squad of Nintendo misfits is the actual human competition behind it. It is what makes solitaire a time filler instead of a pastime, and sports in general such a thrill.

To me, their is a tremendous difference between competition and conflict. I'm a total wuss to conflict, but love competition. When countries come together in competition you get the Olympics and the World Cup. When they come together in conflict...KABOOM. And besides the trend for people getting a little more hurt in conflict than competition, I feel competition is much more productive. You learn and better yourself from it. With conflict, you're lucky if you learn how to stay out of it next time.

I plan on applying for an open position at work in the near future, and I'm slightly worried that it could end up being a thin line between conflict and competition. My mentality in applying is more too get my name out there and improve myself; to find what shortcomings I might have in my advancement. I don't have the level of seniority of several other likely candidates, and even though I feel I'd be good at it, I won't in any way be let down if it goes to one of them. However, I am worried the atmosphere at work will trend towards conflict regardless. Pity.

Oh well, one day till weekend.

Brian Mario Baseball Rage?

Set for the first Brian game of the day...

Match-up Stevie Filano v. Brian, Brian has been installed as the early favorite, I'll give 20-1 odds on Brian rage, Duncan is going 4-1

Long delay before the game, Brian is in bickering mood about having to write Steve's lineup, could be a good sign for those taking the rage bet...

Early coin-toss win for Brian, Steve bats first

Top 1st Inning
Boo looks strong, 3 up and 3 down, 2Ks, no rage

Bottom 1st
Early Brian headshake after his first two batters are retired, quickly calmed by two straight hits. Noki in a big spot here now, Brian collects a bullshit hit for an RBI, rage meter is pretty low. Steve's fielding can be described as embarrassing to this point. Brian scores 4 runs, all with two outs.

Top 2nd
Steve collects his first hit, followed by a two-out RBI. Brian utters his first "Are you kidding me?"

Bottom 2nd
Three-up three down, Brian claims "This always happens to him"

Top 3rd
Brian bullshit catch livens up his soul, three up, three down, still a 4-1 Brian lead

Bottom 3rd
Steve's fielding makes me wonder if he ever played any kind of video game as a child, pressing the controller in the proper direction seems to be a skill he never developed. Score now 6-1 due to a Brian close play victory at the plate.

Top 4th
Steve quickly retired, Brian sips his Keystone happily

Bottom 4th
Seems like it will take alot to induce Brian rage at this point, a big lead, late in the game, he is in his happy element. Steve takes care of 3 straight batters.

Top 5th
Duncan is in the back binding another copy of "Star Management, Successful Techniques for winning in the MBL", Someone needs to do some homework, Steve is at a new low.

Bottom 5th
A breakthrough, a Brian FUCK! and lip mutter, something could be developing, three up, three down.

Top 6th
Nothing doing, It's bad people

Bottom 6th
Brian with a joyful MVP chant for Baby Peach, looks like he has gone back to his happy place, snide Duncan comments could change things quickly though.

Top 7th
Last chance for alot things here, Steve a win, Brian some rage. Steve goes quietly into the night.

Ballgame.

Garelick Farms

Yes, today was the first time egg nog has touched my lips in 10 months. Sadly, the only brand that Price Chopper had was Garelick Farms, which can't even be compared to Hood.

Anyways, Egg Nog, or "God's Nectar" as I call it is not only a delicious beverage, but also a sign that the best time of the year is right around the corner. The fact that its not sold year round is an outrage, but thats a topic for another day.

Since Duncan has already mentioned my "excellent" movie taste, the first movie that I guarantee is "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." Watch it. You'll love it.

My biggest concern in life right now is a customer that I originally spoke with at work yesterday. A 78 year old Indian man with a PhD and about 8 other degrees has promised to send me 4 copies of his autographed book. The book is a collection of inspirational quotes and a way to find the "fountain of life" as he calls it. This was creepy enough, but add this to the fact that he now faxes me 4 pages of inspirational quotes a day and calls me after each one to see if I received them, and I don't really know what to do. I refuse to ever answer any of his calls again.

Im gonna end this post by saying that I am the best cribbage player I know, but congrats to Bryanna for finally beating me today. And to make defeat feel even worse, I was then forced to watch "Paris Hilton: My New BFF," the worst show, this side of Parental Control.

Now go to the store, buy some egg nog, drink it, and enjoy life.

And thanks to Jen for making Duncan and I start an apartment blog....clearly opening a can of worms.

Later

Fresh Starts

Today is a day of many firsts.

Our first African American is president-elect; hopefully marking the start of a stark contrast from our previous presidential term. I'm sure Obama is covered in much greater depth everywhere else on the internet though, so I don't see much sense in jumping on that topic.

This is also the first post on the newly created Duncan/Brian house blog! We plan to cover all the hard-hitting issues that come up around 315 Conestoga. You lucky readers will get the chance to take in our views on culture, politics, sports, entertainment, and of course the world of high finance. Brian also has an excellent taste in movies, and will regularly be sharing his choice of films that have earned the "Brian Guarantee." We're fun people, we'll write fun things. Keep in mind, if you're not reading, you'll be missing out on all the inside jokes I'm am sure we'll reference in our day to day lives. You wouldn't want that.

Most importantly though, today is the first day of Egg Nog. Of all the Nogs, the Egg variety is by far the finest. We've moved away from a simple four-season system to one determined by the foods and drinks available during that time of the season. Sam Adam's seasonal beers are my usual determiner, but Egg Nog deserves a season of its own. So, welcome to Egg Nog season.

I'm off to have a delicious glass. Enjoy our blog.
